HELP US BRING NEW MUSIC TO LIFE!
Other Minds works year-round to bring the best composers and performers of non-commercial music to the attention of the world. Support from people like you is essential to this valuable work.
People are still talking about OM Festival 24, which presented rarely performed and luminous works of Ivan Wyschnegradsky, a pioneer microtonalist composer. Guest artists, the Arditti String Quartet, and a quartet of international new music pianists gave several American premieres. Also presented at the festival was The Pressure, a musical horror tale by Brian Baumbusch. Meanwhile, our series The Nature of Music has presented artists from a variety of disciplines whose work combines environmentalism and the arts. Our Special Events included piano music by Terry Riley, performed by Gloria Cheng and the composer, and Dmitri Shostakovich’s arrangements of his Symphony No. 4 and Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms performed by duo pianists Maki Namekawa and Dennis Russell Davies.
The microtonal compositions of composer Ivan Wyschnegradsky (1893-1979) were the focus, along with the world-premiere of an OM commission “The Pressure,” by Bay Area composer Brian Baumbusch.
Matthew Burtner records glacier sounds from his native Alaska, with a brash disregard for his own safety, and uses the sounds in music he composes for concert instruments. What we do for art!
Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 4 is the centerpiece, arranged for two pianos. Dennis Russell Davies & Maki Namekawa perform it in conjunction with the release of their recording for Supertrain Records.
OM Records continues to release new and exciting works on a regular basis. We’ve made our entire catalog available on Bandcamp as well as on our webstore, so be sure to check back frequently to see what we’re up to. Recent releases include digital-only editions by Brian Baumbusch, Robert Honstein, and Helen Thorington, a CD release by Bill Fontana, and a special edition cassette by Henry Birdsey.
