Below you will find a directory of the tapes of the Composer to Composer Festival which ran from 1988-1991 in Telluride, CO, directed by Charles Amirkhanian and John Lifton.
The newly digitized recordings feature an incredible roster of composers including Pauline Oliveros, John Cage, Laurie Anderson, Conlon Nancarrow and many, many more, discussing fascinating themes such as the integration of politics and composition, who they think their audience is or should be, inventing instruments to extend musical language, and how to employ rapidly advancing technology. One can listen, like a fly on the wall, as the composers speak peer-to-peer to arrive at new conclusions and hone their thinking about important concepts and concerns in musical composition.
