Program 551: Ivan Wyschnegradsky

KALW Broadcast Date: March 15, 2019 | Host: Liam Herb

Ivan Wyschnegradsky led a life characterized by exile and cultural exclusion; but nevertheless, he remained persistent in his idiosyncratic work. Although he was a founding father of microtonal composition and theory, he was at heart an expressionist, and felt a deep connection to the life and work of Scriabin. Throughout his long life he sought audiences for his music but never compromised his artistic principles to gain the public ear.

This program contains performances of his music and a clip of an 1976 interview conducted by Other Minds Executive and Artist Director, Charles Amirkhanian.
