Raven in the News

 In Composers, Other Minds News

Since being awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music for 2022, composer and noise artist Raven Chacon has been getting a lot of attention, and rightly so. His prize was for a composition entitled Voiceless Mass, a piece for pipe organ, sine wave frequencies, and chamber orchestra that was composed for the Nichols & Simpson organ at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee where the piece premiered on November 21, 2021, as part of Present Music’s annual celebrations around the dichotomous theme of Thanksgiving.

We’ve had the honor to sponsor an event with Chacon before, in 2016, as part of our concert/interview series The Nature of Music. We’ve also featured his music recently on our radio program, Music from Other Minds, and have an upcoming podcast episode about Raven as well. Furthermore, Raven will be participating in the next Other Minds Festival this coming October, when he’ll be presenting a collaboration with experimental composer, sonic architect, performance artist, and visual media artist Guillermo Galindo.

We’ll have more information about the next Festival up on our web site soon. In the meantime, check out this article about Raven Chacon on the online magazine Hyperallergic. Photo by Adolphe Pierre-Louis.
