Program for next week’s Festival
The printed programs for our upcoming Festival 23 – Sound Poetry: The Wages of Syntax – just arrived from our printer. We took a different direction with the design this year, featuring some stunning art from some of the multi-talented characters in the Futurist and Dadaist movements of the early 20th Century. We made four different covers for this year’s program. Two have photos of a couple of the artists who will be performing at the Festival, Jaap Blonk and Pamela Z. One has an old photo of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, a sound poet and writer of the Futurist Manifesto. The fourth cover, the one that illustrates this post, is a painting by the Italian artist, designer and sound poet Fortunato Depero, perhaps best known as the man who designed the iconic Campari ads and Campari bottle. This piece is titled Simultaneità metropolitane and we felt it evoked the playfulness and complexity of the art of sound poetry really well. Our thanks to Autumn Press of Berkeley for doing a great job printing this piece for us.
