OPERATIONS DIRECTOR (40 HOURS PER WEEK, FULL-TIME, EXEMPT)
Other Minds is seeking an Operations Director with significant experience in non-profit administration and operations. The Director will assist the Artistic/Executive Director and will be responsible for the organization's operations through oversight and facilitation of: the development, implementation and coordination of all programs; budgeting and financial management; and the ongoing cultivation of resources and community relations.
About Other Minds
Other Minds is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation based in San Francisco dedicated to new and unusual music in all its forms. We produce an award-winning international contemporary music event, the Other Minds Music Festival, encompassing the latest trends in classical music, jazz, electronic and experimental work with unusual instruments. Past participants include Meredith Monk, Philip Glass, Conlon Nancarrow, Lou Harrison, Tan Dun, Terry Riley, Pamela Z, Sam Rivers, Hamza el Din, DJ Spooky, Don Byron, Gavin Bryars and Michael Nyman. Other Minds also produces CDs of rare music and maintains two extensive web sites that document the history of new music (otherminds.org & radiOM.org). The annual budget is $600,000. The Operations Director provides support and assistance to the Executive/Artistic Director as follows:
Artistic Programs
Ensure the successful presentation and production of events, including the Other Minds Festival and special concerts, by supporting the Artistic Director in (1) the development and funding of programs, (2) managing event scheduling and artist services, (3) coordinating with partner organizations, and (4) managing all aspects of production including staff and volunteers, rentals and procurement, box office, printed program production and advertising sales. Support other projects including the Other Minds Record label, Audio Preservation Project (radiOM.org), and radio program "Music From Other Minds" by monitoring production, marketing of activities, and management of licensing agreements and other correspondence as needed.
Marketing & Communications
Coordinate and execute public-facing marketing and communications, with a significant focus on digital communications. Write, edit and produce MindAlert newsletter, oversee Facebook page, work with webmaster to market events and merchandise on otherminds.org, and manage all aspects of event marketing including advertising, press releases, and response to inquiries.
Administrative/Financial
Manage the daily operations of the organization through oversight of financial health, and general administration. Maintain operational records and produce reports as needed; review financial statements and produce financial reports in collaboration with the Business Manager; manage human resources including interns and volunteers and consultants. Compile materials for Board Meetings.
Development
Support the Development and Executive Directors in all fundraising efforts through evaluation of opportunities, coordination and editing of applications and materials.
Qualifications
Experience in non-profit management
Experience overseeing non-profit financials and personnel
Demonstrated post-graduate level writing, grammar and touch typing skills
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Concert production experience
Marketing experience
Physical ability to stand for long periods of time, lift and carry boxes up to 30 pounds
Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of contemporary classical music and contemporary art (BA or higher in Music or related field)
Proficiency in MS Office, FileMaker Pro, QuickBooks, graphics and audio software
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities independently and under time pressure
Internet communications skills
Experience working with international artists
Basic proficiency in languages other than English
Compensation: $36,000-45,000 DOE; benefits available including 50% of health care costs for employee (Kaiser Permanente), 401(k) match. This is a full-time exempt position, reporting to the Artistic/Executive Director.
