Other Minds launches BRINK: Other-Minded Music
A monthly performance series at Hemlock Tavern in San Francisco
Curated by Bernard Francis Kyle and David Katznelson
The May 25th show will feature Christopher Willits & Blevin Blectum.

On Wednesday, May 25, at 9:30 pm, Other Minds' BRINK show at the Hemlock Tavern will feature Christopher Willits and Bevin Kelley's band Blevin Blectum.

Christopher Willits will be performing a continuous live improvisation with guitar, computer and homemade software.

Blevin Blectum will be performing a new piece of audio and video incorporating field recordings from the past year or so. Working title: ARGIOPE ORBWEB.

Christopher Willits and Blevin Blectum will conclude the evening with a joint improvised performance.

Christopher Willits
Christopher Willits is a musician and multimedia artist located in San Francisco. His musical focus is characterized by guitar + computer software processing and improvisation which generates a unique mixture of melody and rhythm. Guitar harmonies are folded into each other using custom-designed software; notes and phrases hook and weave, creating complex patterns of interlocking rhythms, melodies and textures.

Willits completed his Master's Degree in Electronic Music at Mills College where he studied with Pauline Oliveros, Fred Frith and John Bischoff. At Mills he explored structure-generating processes in music; a focus not unfamiliar to former Mills affiliates John Cage and Steve Reich. Prior to Mills, Willits received a solid visual arts training in painting, sculpture, and video art at the Kansas City Art Institute.

Blevin Blectum
Formerly one half of the Oakland-based digital duo Blectum From Blechdom (R.I.P), and ex-aka-d84, bLevin bLectum now goes solo and/or with the audio/video band SAGAN (with Wobbly and Lesser). Continued electronics with a more oblique slant on the basic BFB sensation of things-not-quite-right-here, clanking, creaking grooves and anti-grooves as a coal-powered spacecraft from some steampunk parallel universe, puffing and straining as it struggles to reach escape velocity, chopped, time-stretched to the breaking/boiling point, generally fucked-with samples of everything from hand-slapped leaves and antique broken Beatnik banks to ProTooledFree classic disembodied-blissful-transvestite-stand-up-comic vocals.

21 and over only. Cover charges apply; cover charge for each performance is $7.

Hemlock Tavern is located at 1131 Polk Street, between Post and Sutter, one block east of Van Ness Avenue. Hemlock features a newly expanded live music performance room, physically separate from the main bar, which was originally designed by studio recording engineers and underwent a renovation and expansion in January 2005. While retaining much of its beloved intimacy and charm, the room is now a somewhat bigger, and all-around improved, version of itself with a new 16' x 10' stage. The Hemlock Tavern received the 2004 SF Weekly award for "Best Intimate Venue."
