The Other Minds Composer Fellowship presents composers with the opportunity for a unique residency in conjunction with the 17th Other Minds Festival of New Music, dubbed by the LA Times "the premier new music festival west of the Rockies."
The OM Fellows for 2012 are the following:
|D. Edward Davis, currently
enrolled at Duke University
|John P. Hastings, CalArts MFA '08, now living and working in Brooklyn||Peter Swendsen, Asst. Professor of Computer Music and Digital Arts at Oberlin Conservatory||Jen Wang, currently enrolled at UC Berkeley|
One work by each of the Fellows will be performed by this year's resident ensemble, Rootstock Percussion, in a concert on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at THE LAB, 2948 16th Street, San Francisco. In addition, they will participate in a series of residency events from Saturday, February 25 through Saturday, March 3, 2012, including lecture-presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and seminars.
Rootstock will workshop compositions in open rehearsals with the Fellows; they will also participate in a public panel discussion as part of the concert presentation. Panel and performance recordings will be provided to the Fellows and made available as part of the Other Minds Archive on www.radiOM.org.
Seminars: Each Fellow will discuss his/her music in private workshops with the other Fellows, in 1-hour sessions moderated by Other Minds staff. Fellows will also discuss their works in a roundtable discussion with OM Festival Artists, and observe private discussions of the OM Festival Residency.
Honorarium: Other Minds Composer Fellows receive a $500 honorarium for their participation, free admission to all Other Minds Festival concerts, and audio recordings of the Fellowship concert performance.
